The NSA: “…our neighbors and our friends.”

brown shirts

Yeah, and the Brownshirts were just good German neighbors as well.  <LOL>  And the Hitler Youth were kinda like the Boy Scouts.  Such nice young men!

If a President who has lied repeatedly to the American people tells us that a super-secret intelligence agency is reforming and will play nice from now on, who is gonna believe that?  I think everyone from this day forward can only assume that the NSA and their counterparts can only be up to no good.  We have to assume this as there is no credible oversight and there’s a secret court system which is is quite frankly extra-Constitutional.
The trust broken with the American people by the NSA can never be repaired as we can never know if they’ve actually repaired it.

In the past I didn’t really want to know what the NSA or the CIA were up to because I assumed they were doing sensitive work to protect our republic from bad guys, as did most Americans.

I don’t really care one way or the other, as I’m gonna go on living my life as I always have.  If things get really ugly then so be it.  We’ll burn that bridge when we get to it.  But the President’s comments today are nothing if not hilarious.

The Sturmabteilung  (Brownshirts)

The Sturmabteilung (SA) (German pronunciation: [ˈʃtʊɐ̯mʔapˌtaɪlʊŋ] ( listen); Storm Detachment or Assault Division, or Brownshirts) functioned as the original paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party. It played a key role in Adolf Hitler’s rise to power in the 1920s and 1930s. Their main assignments were providing protection for Nazi rallies and assemblies, disrupting the meetings of the opposing parties, fighting against the paramilitary units of the opposing parties (especially the Rotfrontkämpferbund) and intimidating Jewish citizens (e.g. the Nazi boycott of Jewish businesses).

Obama:  NSA reforms should give Americans ‘greater confidence’
While the president recognized the surveillance program has grown in recent years, he also strongly defended those who work in the intelligence community, saying they do not abuse power. “After all,” he said, “the folks at NSA and other intelligence agencies are our neighbors and our friends.”
