Inherit The Wind

Inherit The Wind

I watched this 1960 film with my mom tonight and it was quite good.  Spencer Tracy stars, along with Gene Kelly and Harry Morgan.

[From IMDB]

Storyline

Teacher B.T. Cates is arrested for teaching Darwin’s theories. Famous lawyer Henry Drummond defends him; fundamentalist politician Matthew Brady prosecutes. This is a very thinly disguised rendition of the 1925 “Scopes monkey trial” with debates between Clarence Darrow and William Jennings Bryan taken largely from the transcripts.

I found it to be quite timely as West Michigan finds itself embroiled in various battles with an atheist who is becoming quite successful at removing religious symbols from the local landscape.

Spencer Tracy was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance and I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Laughed out load several times during this movie.
