Our Relatively Quick Demise

Woodstock 4

NOTE:  I’ve been putting this together most of the weekend – thinking about things, writing a bit, researching a bit.

Just a few minutes ago I ran across the piece (link below) by John Murray, a retired minister from the Free Churchof Scotland (Continuing).  He says much better than I do what has happened to us not only in the United States, but in the West as well, since about the middle of the 20th Century.

I’m sending out the sermon from John MacArthur once again in case you missed it.  🙂  It’s a really good thing to listen to.  Below that is a link to the first in a sermon series from Warren Wiersbe on the book of Amos.  Really good stuff there.

I’m thinking that the United States is on hospice care right now.  John MacArthur stated in his sermon that “the reprobate mind has ascended the bench.”  That would certainly appear to be true.  The reprobate mind is in control all over this nation.

And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Romans 1:28

A week or so ago I wrote something – I believe on Facebook – about wondering when God will drop the hammer on this nation.  I believe I wrote that just after the revelations started coming out about Planned Parenthood.

Now I’m wondering if the hammer already dropped and now I’m trying to figure out when it actually dropped.  Was it at Woodstock, in Bethel, New York in 1969?  (Interesting that Beth-El means House of God)  When was this nation given over to a reprobate mind?  Was it earlier, in the 1950s?  It’s hard to pick a specific point in time, but I think by the late 1960s with Woodstock and Vietnam we begin to see some evidence that the U.S. as a nation had turned its corporate back on the Lord and began to do what Fleetwood Mac told us was possible.  “You can go your own way…”  I think we as a nation were still
largely on the right path just after World War II, so I figure it was not long after that.

Judgment does not always come like we’d expect it, with sudden tragedy or destruction, but sometimes it comes in the form of a slow, almost imperceptible death. Because I was born in 1966, my entire life has been lived in this period of severe downward spiral in things moral, economic, military, political, etc.  For me and those who are my age or younger, this is normal America.  This is standard practice.

I’m quite troubled by things right now.  We are everything God says we shouldn’t be and that is not at all comforting.  As  MacArthur states, those who are given power and authority to protect life, property and liberty in this nation are actually in the process of doing great damage to all these things.  What’s troubling is that a majority now seem to be in their camp.

John Murray states this in his piece below and it’s both challenging and encouraging:

We are back to the situation as it was in the days of the early Church. The pattern is becoming clearer by the day. The Roman Empire, under which many Christians were martyred, was pluralistic and supremely tolerant of religion. The only people they could not tolerate were the Christians. In our society we must expect more and more persecution. But we have to remember with the Puritan Jeremiah Burroughs: ‘The Church never grew up so fast as when under most persecution.’ We must strive with all our might to be what the Church ought to be and that is the true counter-culture in our society. Persistent faithfulness to God and his truth and righteousness is the crying need of the hour.

We Will Not Bow
This country talks a lot about terrorist attacks—and rightly so. Almost anybody in America can give you some kind of a listing of the most destructive acts of terror that have happened in our country. But let me suggest to you this: The two greatest attacks of terror on America were perpetrated by the Supreme Court. Not by any Muslim, but by the Supreme Court of the United States. The first one was the legalizing of abortion. Subsequent to that, there have been millions of babies slaughtered in the wombs of their mothers. It’s incalculable to even comprehend that. The blood of those lives cries out from the ground for divine vengeance on this nation.

An Overview of Amos

Moral and Spiritual Erosion in Two Generations
Our society prides itself in being liberal, multi-cultural, inclusive and tolerant but it is a society that is empty and has in it the seeds of its own destruction. There is inevitably a loss of character. Image and appearance assume the functions that character and morality once had. Virtue has been replaced by values.
